Wallington Area Guide

Sometimes overlooked for the more popular areas of Sutton or Cheam, Wallington boasts three large outdoor spaces – Mellows Park, Beddington Park and Grange Gardens – and also three grammar schools – Wallington High School for Girls, Wilson’s and Wallington County Grammar School – helping to boost the position of schools in the London Borough of Sutton to fourth in the country.

The town has seen a few significant new developments of flats luring high street retailers to stake a claim including Café Nero, a large Sainsbury’s, Boots and WH Smith alongside small independent retailers and restaurants. The Sutton Community Farm is based in Wallington and operates as a not-for-profit social enterprise and you can visit the Farmers’ Market on the 2nd Saturday of each month outside of the old Town Hall to purchase locally sourced and grown produce.

Is there nothing this little independent beauty doesn’t offer?! Hiding behind the coffee shop at the front is what The Brook describes as a ‘heated Narnia’. Take a seat in the small pop-up cinema, listen to some local talent at the music or open mic nights or lay down your very own track in the recording studio. This gem is also available to hire for parties and hosts a regular book club, choir night and a supper club.

Take a seat in this drinking establishment to enjoy a wide selection of beverages that are locally and regionally sourced (and brewed) including the award winning Wandle Best Bitter from Sambrook’s. Their traditional Sunday roast dinner is pretty special too and there’s a great selection of pub grub throughout the week. You can hire out the dining room for private functions or dust off your grey matter for the weekly quiz night on a Wednesday.

Managed on behalf of Sutton council, the Phoenix Centre has a host of fitness offerings including a fitness centre with the latest equipment, group exercise classes (including Total Toning, Zumba and Pilates), a crèche, dance studio, soft play area and café.
