Choose neutral shades

Some rooms can successfully use dark colors, while others benefit from lighter tones. A small downstairs cloakroom can embrace bold patterns and rich emeralds, while a north-facing room feels cozier with darker hues. However, to attract buyers and create a more spacious feel, neutral tones are ideal. These can be warm to avoid feeling impersonal, with colour added through furniture and accessories that are easily changeable. For inspiration, we’ve turned to Farrow and Ball, a leader in colour mixing. Clicking on the pictures will take you to the retailer's site for more information.

No. 2003 Pointing is delicate white with a warm undertone to soften a room.

No. 4 Old White is a traditional neutral that changes colour in different spaces, looking a subdued green in north-facing rooms whilst more of a classic grey in lighter spaces.

No. 241 Skimming Stone is a stoney off white with warm light grey undertones particularly suited to soothing bedroom schemes.

No. 293 Jitney has a brown based earthy tone. With more depth of colour than a regular neutral it works well with the complementary Dimity white.
